McAfee completes acquisition of cloud security firm Skyhigh Networks

US-based digital security company McAfee has completed the acquisition of cloud access security broking (CASB) firm Skyhigh Networks, a company statement said.

Skyhigh Networks will be part of the McAfee Cloud Security Business Unit, the statement added.

“With two industry leaders coming together under one company, we will make cybersecurity an enabler to the transformative power of our digital age. We are focused on securing customers from their devices to the cloud, giving customers access to market-leading capabilities in the architectural control points that matter most,” Chris Young, chief executive officer of McAfee, said in the press note.

According to McAfee’s 2017 cloud adoption and security report, nearly 93% of organisations use some form of cloud services.

McAfee had announced the acquisition of Skyhigh Networks in November last year.

Skyhigh Networks, which is headquartered in Campbell, California, was founded in 2011 by former Cisco executives Kaushik Narayan, Rajiv Gupta, and Sekhar Sarukkai. The cloud security company has raised nearly $106 million in funding from Thomvest Ventures, Greylock Partners and Sequoia Capital. The firm last raised $40 million in a Series D round from Thomvest Ventures in September 2016.

Prior to founding Skyhigh Networks, Gupta was the vice president and general manager of the policy management business unit at networking equipment giant Cisco. He had joined the company after it acquired Securent Inc. Gupta, who is an IIT graduate, also has more than 45 patents to his name. Skyhigh's other co-founders Narayan and Sarukkai were previously principal engineer and senior director of engineering, respectively, at Cisco.
