Jayant Rikhye has been promoted as the chief executive officer of HSBC’s India operations, the bank said.

He will replace the incumbent chief, Stuart Milne, effective 1 December. “Jayant brings with him vast experience of leading international banking operations in Asia. I am confident he will be able to take the bank’s India operations to the next level of development,” said Peter Wong, deputy chairman and chief executive, HSBC Ltd.

Rikhye is currently head of international, Asia-Pacific, HSBC, and is responsible for 11 markets in the region. He had joined the banking major in 1989 and has since served in various capacities across verticals, including its corporate banking division in Taiwan, institutional fund services in Hong Kong and as head of securities services for West Asia and North Africa.

He has a baccalaureate degree in science and a masters’ in business administration from the University of New Orleans in Louisiana.

Milne is going to take a sabbatical for three months from January 2018 and his next role at HSBC will be decided in due course, the press note said.

HSBC India offers banking and financial services through its 26 branches across 14 cities in the country. The group employs 37,000 people across its banking, investment banking and capital markets, asset management, insurance, software development and global resourcing operations in India.
